fahm aminals
ok so looking at the shingles i automatically think barn. I think farm and farm animals. I thought about painting the animals r a farm scene but i think that s pretty generic so i thought about animal prints. Most animal prints that people wear and a re recodnisable are more jungle animals rather than farm animals but this is good. Having less to do with recodnising a pattern kind of frees me. I can make this series about color, texture, and getting the 'feel' of the animal i am representing just by using the colors of the animals coat. The cow might be a challenge because i specifically dont want people to look at it from far away and thing 'thats a cow'. But the animals i plan to use for colors are a cow (black and white), a pig (pink and brown), a beagle (black brown and white), and a rooster (white with speckles of black green red). This is an expieriament in color. Also using the surface of the shingles to create something different from the start. these will be four separate shingles no frames and should be hung on the wall in a line as a series. With this in mind they should all be different enough to be interesting but still have colors that compliment one another.

Rollah Coastah
okay so i wicked wanna make a rollah coastah out of the steel wire rame flower thingies. When fiddleing with the objects i looked around at the things i thought they looked like tracks. Not train tracks but roller coaster tracks. So i would construct a miniature coaster out of the wire, and other objects to make the verticle supports. I would make several passenger cars and a little station where my imaginary miniature passengers will wait in line. I will probably spray paint it to have a cool rolller coaster color scheme and even have a theme to it.

If i would have to chose a trade it would be to be a mechanic. second to money is having a nice car, and if you can fix your own car you can doo all kinds of crazy stuff. Boost, chipped, spoiler, supercharger, get like a twelve cylinder turbo, take out the seats in the back to get rid of some weight. And i wouldnt get charges out the azz for getting an oil change and sinple stuff like that. You can getto figure out how things work, and ide have to lift stuff so i wouldnt have to pay for a gym membership.
trades shamades
Since Tabor Academy is a “college prep” school do you think
it has a goal of guiding students to whatever may be best for them even if it
is a position in the trades? Examine and explain your opinion.
Best is a very subgektiv word. And for most in the Tabor community, the 'best' outcome for an enrolled student is one far away from any type of position in the trades. Pursueing a trade as a career would be percieved by many as a failure. Saying you'll be a plumber or a mechanic is more of a punchline than anything else. It may make a student here happy, fufilled, and give him or her more purpose than that found in a cubicle. A cubicle, however, and the work done there as opposed to 'tinkering' will bring money. Money will pay back college loans, money will potentailly donated to Tabor, and money that will send their children to Tabor. That being said, the ones who apply thiemselfes to Tabor already have an established different path from that of a tradesman. If someone was super interested in the trades then they would be interested in a vocational school.

book sculptchah...gettin it yet?
This book sculpture is by Guy Laramee
After spending some time hollowing out a book (now 'Mark's secret book of questionable items') i know how hard it is to have this medium under control because your medium is several undred indivisual pages. and i was only making a hollow box. this guy is making caves, scale replicas of ancient ruins, and natural topography. This artist probably loves to use books because of the philisophical aspect (finding meaning in books, story settings, having a novel 'take you somewhere etc.) but the different pages gives it a texture. It looks similar to mount rushmore or just looking down at the land from an airplane. This texture would have been pretty hard to reproduce in clay or plaster or granite for example because all of those things are smooth. Wood's grain wouldn't have created the same effect either. ...very cool stuff- check out his other pieces in this body of work. here's the link-
